Independent Archivist, Women's Rights & Woman Suffrage
Decatur, GA
I am an independent archivist for the Lucy Hargrett Draper collections on women's rights and woman suffrage which have been gifted to the Special Collections Libraries at three institutions:
"The Lucy Hargrett Draper Center & Archives for the Study of the Rights of Women in History and Law, 1550-2050" at the University of Georgia's Hargrett Rare Book & Manuscript Library in Athens, GA.
"The Lucy Hargrett Draper Collections on Women, Advocacy and the Law" at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA.
"The Lucy H. Draper Collections on Women at West Point and 'Women Warriors'" at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.
I work with Ms. Draper collecting and archiving a variety of wonderful materials: rare books and manuscripts; artifacts; broadsides; periodicals; ephemera; and many other fabulous treasures. In 2017, together we established the "Women's Protest Movement Archive 2017, f.f." which began after I marched in the The March for Social Justice and Women (the official name of the Atlanta Women's March) on January 21, 2017. This Archive fast forwards (f.f.) to include the 2018 Power to the Polls women's movement, the current 2019 Women's Wave movement, a #MeToo collection and a Sexual Harassment in the U.S. Workplace collection. We will continue to add to the Women's Protest Movement Archive as the years go by. I am also working on a collection on African-American women in the women's rights and woman suffrage movements, and I just started a collection on the current abortion battle and fight to keep Roe v. Wade as law of the land.
This spring I was very honored when the University of Georgia's Special Collections Library displayed a three month exhibit of the 2017-2018 Women's Protest Movement Archive, which continues to be a labor of love.
As an independent archivist (and collector), I have learned a great deal over the years, but mostly on my own. I love what I do so much that I joined SAA, and I'm very excited to attend this conference so that I can expand my knowledge about all things archival, and to meet other archivists to see what they are doing.
