Heidi Abbey Moyer

Ms. Moyer has been an academic librarian for over twenty-five years. Since 2006, she has served as the Archivist, Humanities Reference Librarian, Faculty Liaison to the School of Humanities, and Coordinator of Archives and Special Collections in the Madlyn L. Hanes Library at Penn State Harrisburg. In 2013, she earned tenure and was promoted to Associate Librarian. Her research agenda is interdisciplinary and has recently centered around social justice topics including promotion and tenure for academic archivists, archival advocacy and outreach, Motherhood studies, oral history, wedding history, and woman suffrage in America.
She is an active, long-time member of MARAC and the MARAC Communications Committee, and has served since 2017 as an Editor and member of the Editorial Board for the MARAC Technical Leaflet Series, which will be renamed in 2023 as The Practical Archivist: MARAC Technical Leaflet Series. From 2017-2020, she served as Co-Chair of the Oral History Association’s Archives Interest Group (OHA-AIG), which informed her recently published entry, "Oral History Program, Designing and Managing" in Dr. Patricia Franks’ book, The Handbook of Archival Practice (Roman & Littlefield, September 2021). Ms. Moyer completed her second research sabbatical in June 2022 that focused on the ketogenic diet and its prevalence in American consumer and popular culture, and she currently co-authoring a forthcoming article on DEI in academic archives for the journal Genealogy.
